Subject: RE: 3162 Case IH flex draper vs. Macdon

Eastern ontario
Had a 30ft draper from Case new in 2010.really liked the way it fed but the lack of flex in no-till didn't suit me. Traded it after 2 years on a 3020 with an air reel. Last year wanted to demo the new 3162 to see how much difference the flex made. Seems they were always sold before they got to me. Ended up buying a new 3162 over the winter as everyone seemed to be raving about them. Trade in my other 3020 with an air reel. Worst fall I have ever had. Hydraulic filter head installed backwards so it sucked out the paper center from the filter and belts only ran half speed. Still probably still paper in the tube. Reel has to be adjusted every 2 days as it gets out of alignment and starts to knock. Can lift either end of the knife with 2 fingers but takes both arms to lift the middle. Instead of a frown or a smile the knife looks like an M. But the worst thing is the distance from the knife to the table. Short or medium height beans sit there and the reel has to be kept all the way back and down to keep feeding. Beans constantly hitting the windshield as you need a higher reel speed and can't use the fore and aft to get the down plants. Lift the head at the end and everything slides off so there are windrows of beans on the headland. Also no rock pocket like the MacDon so ate a couple of stones. Been farming 37 years and made many mistakes but this is by far the worst piece of equipment I have ever bought. Took it back to the dealer at the end of the season to be gone over and don't ever plan on it coming back to my farm. Try before you buy and if they won't let you try don't buy. Major issues with this design.
