Jon, great post, as usual. Can't argue with anything you posted, but not sure it can be converted to an accurate yield model?

Maybe I can answer one question you ask in that post: "how relevant is modeling man's response to this thing 60 years ago to today..??"

Agree that 60 years ago national corn yields were much lower than they are today, but that difference is accounted for in our models by using residuals from the linear trend. That accounts for the amazing linear increase in national corn yields over those 60 years. Don't have a clue what is causing that linear trend, but stats prove it is real, so we account for it in our models.
