East Central, Nebraska | just bought an international with one this summer, approx. 650k., knew something was wrong from the start but thought whatever if I have to rebuild it at least I know what I got. after about 500 miles pulled the dipstick and oil was milky looking. took it in, on the way the turbo went out. they quoted 12 grand, when I left with it I took home a $17k bill. ran it for about 25 miles, pulled dipstick, white milky oil again. took it back and they put a water pump in it and assured me over and over that wasn't the original problem. so now if I replace the alternator and starter I will know exactly what I have with warranty. I will say that after the overhaul it is a completely different truck. hopefully it will be here for years to come. the truck is an 06' so hopefully it will hold together for a long time. who knows I guess.
the thing is I can drive you to several different guys farms real close that bought what they thought were decent trucks and have taken a bath on them. the best advice I can give is do not buy one from taylor and martin, and whichever one you pick be sure that you have a good mechanic that will work on that particular truck and engine if needed. I can fully relate to that too, I have a freightliner sitting in my yard that no one will work on because it has a MB4000 engine in it.
so to answer your question I like the new ism in the old truck that I have. its a cummins, they tell me, "you think that was expensive to rebuild, try taking in a cat" | |
