NW Washington | I used to always used to use leaves to mulch my vegetable garden and flower beds and I used some black walnut leaves in the mix. The leaves were always ground using a small shredder. I was always amazed at how fast the leaves disappeared just laying on top of the ground and I never noted any harmful affects from the leaves. Those big night-crawler earth worms can make residue like leaves disappear in a hurry.
