IMO if you can't make corn work in your part of the world with 9 inches you really ought to sell now. Even in 2012 we didn't apply more than 9 and had very good irrigated yield. Flood fields did suffer through, as it got dry so fast it was hard to keep up.
As for it being an 80s repeat.....there are so many operations with little debt compared to back then its hard to compare. 3-4% higher interest rates and a couple more years of below breakeven for high cost producers.....then heads will roll.
