mn | Welcome to the haymaking world. The problem is all the weekend warriors that are willing to work for free by selling their hay dirt cheap just to move it. The best way to get higher sales is to produce top quality alfalfa and have it all tested with results available to buyers.
The market is absolutely flooded in the Midwest with large bales of hay. You either need to make super high quality hay and store it covered or make small bales (IE "idiot bricks) to get in to the higher demand market.
Hay is no different than corn. When the price skyrocketed a few years ago EVERYONE started baling every blade of grass they could find and the market has an over supply. Until that supply gets burnt up and less made next year the market will remain soft. IMO hay is a TRUE supply demand market. | |
