Missouri | I bought a 1/4 in 1988 for $875/acre. That same 1/4 brought $2200/acre in 1981. That is a 60% decline. If, and I understand if, that decline happens again we are dealing with way bigger numbers. I don't care that interest rates are not what they were in the 80's. 60% of $10,000 is going to hurt as much as 60% of $2200 with higher interest. I know young farmers whose Dad's were bankrupt in the 80's who have added 10,000 acres in the last 12 years. We will see how this generation handles that. | |
