The late 90's and early 2000's were a simpler and not as competitive of times. Think back it may not not have been a high profit time but it sure wasn't a cut throat high expense time either. But that neither here nor there. Those times are in the past.
Good friend and I were just discussing this yesterday. Both of us a stones throw either way of 40. $2 corn, sell above, LDP it in the fall, hope to gross $2.50 bushel. Diesel <$1 gal. Seed $75, 28% $100, NH3 $200. Cash rent $100-115. Still grew 160 bu crops and made money without all these companies lined up with their hand in your pocket. Didn't make as much but damned sure didn't have cash outlay and risk like this. |
