Subject: RE: Case 1370 tractors - opinions wanted

Sanilac Co. Michigan
Spent many, many hours on a 1370 Case when I was 19. When I went to farming on my own, my first real "big" tractor was a 970 Case and eventually moved up in horsepower to a 2290 Case. I guess you could say I really like those old Case power shifts. Do they have some problems? Well, yes, but nothing that some good sense can't help avoid.

Don't abuse the power shift. Use it to manage the load you're pulling
Change the power shift filters regularly
For goodness sake don't do stationary PTO work with the power shift in the reverse position.

The rest of the tractor is just a good solid unit. That 504 was a tough one, the cab was pretty good for the mid 70's, and the hydraulic capacity was more than sufficient.

The things I didn't like were the wheel base and the operators position in relation to it. It could be a very rough ride. It really needs to have a differential lock and I;m not sure that was standard on the 1370. I know it wasn't on the 970.
