Subject: There is sunstantial savings to be had

sw ontario
We have been part of a "buyers group" since 1980 . All of us were pork producers who had recently built new barns and interest rates were rising and one of the founding members was at Purdue Top Farmer seminar were some from MN. were doing it. Challenge at the starting is getting guys to let somebody else actually get pricing and make purchases for you and there was a big push back from local suppliers who either didn't get the bid or would not bid.We bought everything from fuel, soy meal, pre-mixes,fertilizer,chemicals,insurance,medicine,propane,ect. on a tendered basis .We wanted just best price/ 0 service/advice. Savings were never less than 10% AND ON A LOT OF STUFF WE GOT 25% OFF desk price. Big P in the mid'80's threatened to pull dealerships of guys selling to us so for a few yrs. we bought it from the thumb in Mi., This all worked good,no body was paid for getting quotes, pricing, guys openly shared info and we met at least twice a month . Sadly about a decade ago some of the original members were retiring, kids taking over, brought in some new members and then big cash grain boom in 2008 era, hogs bad, guys quit hogs, some made so much money they didn't need the "buyers group" so now other than seed & chemical its wheels have pretty much fallen off . Its a good way too buy, you just have too have the right memebers ,too much independence can be a bad thing .....pretty much all suppliers buy through some sort of "group"
