Driftless SW Wisconsin | thunderhut - 10/31/2015 12:56 There never will be a shortage of farmers. Several farmers run 20,000 acres around me, and they do a fantastic job. The future of grain farming is either a very large farm, or a smaller farm with off farm income. I feel it is destroying communities, but it is the world we live in. I would add another possibility: smaller farm, often on lower value land with higher value crops and livestock, raised with newer, lower cost/less capital intensive techniques and marketed in perhaps non-traditional/non-commodity ways. It is already happening in some areas. |
