Western illinois | I bought a Northstar 8/30 in season. I hate to tell you, but I had the same problem. I was picking dry, standing corn and plugged the row units occasionally. In down corn it was worse. I think the stalks were so rotten and the root system was so poor, that it just didn't pick well this year. I had down corn that was pulling out by the roots. Actually, I had 2 engineers from Geringhoff in my field to tell me why it was plugging. They saw nothing wrong with my head (used), but told me I needed to flatten out the angle of the row units. I only had a few acres left to do and no tools to change the feeder faceplate, so I just finished corn the way it was. I will change the angle before next season. I believe the the Geringhoff is good head. This year conditions were not good. I was impressed with the ease of maintenance on the head when I went to clean it up. Popped the gathering chains off, removed 3 / 17mm nuts and the whole gathering chain guide/ idler assembly lifts off. Then, just lift the stripper plate off and clean everything. Very easy to do. | |
