It's never too soon to start killing a crop! In all seriousness this El Nino does concern me a lot. We have had a dry fall and they seem to be looking for a warm dry winter. Not a real good scenario. Nonetheless, at this point in time I have to plan for 2016 like there will be a normal crop. Not a record crop or a crop failure. The same talking heads on here that have been trying to convince us for the last 10 months that 2015 would be a flop are now moving onto the chances for disaster in 2016. Some things never change.
Midwest US pretty much the garden spot on the globe for the past 3 years. How long can it last? Below normal temps, above normal precip. Been a nice run. SE got a little dry this summer. Got to thinking it may be the start of something. OH/IN/KY/TN states East will probably not have a great crop next year. See if rains return to CA in regular fashion would seem to me the midwest party is over. I remember in 1986 loading railcars of hay donated to those poor folks in the SE to feed their animals. 1987 finished dry just like this and as a matter of fact 2011 did also. So is it killing the crop or using what's in front of you to best prepare. |
