| Ended up with a half inch here. An inch less than ideal but I guess I don't see any reason to be pessimistic about 2016 wheat in this immediate area. I even drilled into some powder (freshly harvested corn stalks) about 24 hours before the rain and I'm now optimistic that I'll get a 100% stand there followed by it going dormant before it starts struggling for moisture.
I'm not saying this to rub salt in wounds. It's just that if you're going to make marketing decisions based upon fundamentals (namely the poor weather in your locale), you should probably also try to determine whether other areas are better than normal (SW KS especially but things look good here in my part of NW KS as well) and you should also take a look at the burdensome supply.
I'm actually bullish wheat over the next year (will always be ups and downs) but one should always look outside their back yard when making marketing decisions. | |
