Adams, NE | As CAIN Farmer said, piles do exist and space is tight in SE NE. We are cash/basis only here. We have 1.1 mbu on the ground right now with more getting put out next week.
We can handle 67% more corn than 5 years ago at our single site. 67% is material with our size. We had many days over 300k and 1 day over 400k dumped. In 2010...we would have been full in 2 weeks. We are not full today, tomorrow or next week. Capital investments have been made in speed and space throughout corn belt. Hence, less piles.
Additionally, rail freight is free this year. Yes, people will pay you to load a shuttle train on the BNSF and the UP today. That is a far cry from the $4,000 per car last year ($1/bushel in just car costs).
The system is getting more efficient. We had to with 12 and 16 row combines, 2 grain carts and 6 trucks per farm any more. Farmers can absolutely bury you if you do not watch it.
The commercial industry has a decent feel for the size of the crop this year. It's big (and fast and dry). | |
