Southern Mn | always easy to spend other peoples money, so as a 50 something farmer I'm going to say, I made a conscious decision in my 40's not to go into long term debt getting more land. I'm ok with that decision, needless to say 2/3 of my income comes from off the farm. So if you are the kind of guy who never wants to work for the "man" then go ahead and start buying land when its available, as a farmer you never truly are in it for life unless you own the land. just remember that piece of ground isnt going to be something you can live off for quite some time, at todays cash prices it wont cash flow, so just be ready to live on some other income until the debts paid down. Good Luck, on whatever you choose to do! | |
