I would go further back. The reaper was a great step forward. The threshing machine was another. Henry Ford made tractors cheap enough that most farmers could afford one and he sold 1000's of Fordsons starting in 1917. The row crop Farmall Regular in 1924 was another major step in tractor design.
Harry Ferguson's 3 point hitch was another major design improvement.
