| They don't make E10 at 87 octane?
Today's oil is not as good as in the past so they added lead to raise octane, then MTBE, and now they use the toxic carcinogens BTX (Butane, Toluene and Xylene--aromatics) Todays straight gasoline contains 28% BTX and premium over 40%.
Gasoline base stock is very low octane. Ethanol is very efficient at raising octane, 5.7% was as good as 15% MTBE.
My 5.3L 2015 chevy pickup is rated at 13 mpg with E85 and 18 with E0. I get better than either of those but for the forum purposes I had better use these EPA numbers.
At E85prices.com in my state E0 cost $2.46, $2.19 for E10, and $1.72 for E85.
E85 = $.132/mile to drive
E0 = $.136/mile to drive
E10 =$.122/mile to drive @18mpg
E10 = $.128/mile to drive @ 18mpg - 5%
As you can see all these fuels are very close, just a month or so ago E85 was the cheapest. I know that money I give for E85 goes to American workers and American businesses who pay American taxes and put the rest in American banks and spend it on goods and services that I or my children, friends, neighbors, and fellow American citizens produce. I know that if I buy E0 more money goes to Arab sheiks and transnational corporations who put their money in Swiss bank accounts and pay little if any tax.
