The Metropolis of Houstonia | When you think higher octane most people associate that with better fuel,,,,,,, not exactly true. It means slower burn that is used to prevent pre detonation (knock) in higher compression engines. You are actually getting a slower burn, which = lower BTU which is why you see less MPG with higher octane fuel. What most people miss is they (gubberment and EPA) outlawed MTBE's and until they come up with a better, cleaner more enviro friendly oxygenate than Ethanol it will be blended. Oh yeah and its cheaper than gas so the blenders are making money on it!!!! |
