Subject: RE: Ethanol

Fletch - Is 91 Octane with 10% Ethanol a higher grade than 87 Octane without Ethanol?

Guess I would think that the higher the Octane, the higher the grade, but it is the 91 Octane with Ethanol that is more than 10% cheaper than the 87 grade without Ethanol.

I wonder about these things b/c the 87 grade does get about 5% extra MPG in my vehicle. So, basically I make a calculation when I purchase gas that the 91 grade must be at least 5% cheaper for me to consider purchasing it. All things being equal (just a 5% discount) is not enough to entice me to buy ethanol b/c the extra trips to the gas station is not worth the trouble in a breakeven situation considering my busy schedule.

This is somewhat heresy to admit to as I am a producer of corn, but it is in fact what I do.
