| For me it was crop disasters in '82 (extreme wet spring) and '83 (extreme drought) that were not covered by insurance like we have today. Had I had crop insurance available like it is today, my struggles would have been 100 times easier, as I had off farm income to live on, instead of using off farm income to make up for losses, and still not have enough to pay back the operating loan. Then NOTHING left to feed my young family. Those 2 years back to back were insurmountable. It wasn't the high interest, although that was very distasteful. | |
