No. Good luck getting a loan as a young farmer with no crop insurance and no equity. The banker would just laugh at you.
The government will give up the farm bill when you pry it out of its cold dead hands! Just think, they know every piece of ground in this country, who farms it, who owns it, what was on it, how much it yielded, every pothole slough and when they're drained. And we keep coming back year after year to feed the big machine the data. It's really amazing/unbelievable when you think about the depth of the record keeping going on there, and especially amazing that it's all farmer provided - how there's this level of compliance is just dumbfounding. Voluntary servitude. |
