Central KY | We'll give one a pass to the fall herd of its a good young cow. Usually they once they switch herds they never miss a beat. We calve in a 45 day window in the fall and usually run around 95% pregnancy rates. If a cow comes up open in the fall herd, she's gone. I'm in the heart of the fescue belt, and I believe that some cows just aren't built to conceive in 90+ deg temps on fescue. This kind of let's them sort themselves out naturally.
Disclaimer- all of our replacements are kept out of the spring herd, none out of the fall herd.
