Central Iowa | Many years ago, I would read the back pages of Successful Farming for the "Best Tips" or whatever they called it back then.
It was a brief little shot of shop ideas, farming tips, and general suggestions that could be useful on the farm.
I was probably in my late 20's when I read this tip. It said, in general, "If you're under 40, just shut up and LISTEN to you Dad, instead of talking. You learn nothing when your mouth is open. You learn everything when it's shut."
I took that to heart way back then, and I'll be damned if I didn't start really figuring it out. Tough love is sometimes in order, Partsdude. This seems to be one of those times. $400 cash rent with $3.60 corn makes zero sense. If anyone lent you money on that business strategy, it would be catastrophic. It could take you a decade to recover from that.
LISTEN to the voices here. There are easier ways through life,to be sure. Farming sure as hell isn't one of them.
