Tennessee | I don't really know a definite answer to your question about the chain speed, but the reason you normally slow the chains down is so the crop hits the rotor at a speed similar to the speed the rotor is turning. When the rotor is in high the chains are supposed to be running fast and vice versa. This is supposed to minimize cracking the grain. I would try them slow first, and if I wasn't satisfied, I'd speed them up.
I bet that Drago is nice. I have threatened to put a green head on ours many times, but I didn't know how to work around the hydraulic deck plates. I can't believe how much trash a 3000 head pulls in. Do you have to buy a specific Drago for a Gleaner, or do they all adapt easily? I really think Gleaner makes the best combine and the worst heads.
