Death comes to us all. Life's but a walking shadow | Below is an interesting map that summarizes the distribution of corn demand from a Grain Transportation Article a couple of years ago. In addition a very good short article on how Grain Consuming Animal Units (GCAU's) is calculated can be found here:http://www.ers.usda.gov/media/1225074/fds13esa.pdf. What I didn't realize is how the tons (metric) of feed per GCAU has fallen from almost 2 in 1993 to 1.4 in 2012 and then shoot back up to 1.6 in '13/14. The GCAU's article isn't very long and is very usefull information to have in mind when considering the WASDE feed & residual number every month.
The GCAU's article has a chart showing the decline in GCAU's from cattle and suggest one potential source of increasing corn demand.
I'm not sure just how accurate the corn demand map is though, it doesn't seem to show the two ethanol plants in NY that account for some 50 million bushel of corn per year.
