Subject: RE: Cattle

Hedging cattle immediately after purchase would be a very low profit venture. I could see where you can't feed cattle during the high risk years. You never had enough good years to do so. Your definition of victory and mine are a long ways apart. Your victory sounds more like anger to me. Some of us choose to take some risk to reach an acceptable margin. Cattle feeding is no different then any kind of farming. If one removes all the risk..........he also tends to remove all the reward. Sitting empty this year proved to be a good move. Feeding cattle last year and hedging then at purchase left huge amounts of profits get away from you............so are you really managing your risk better then anyone else ???
