Subject: RE: Elder abuse---financial exploitation

North Central Texas
We have one around that preys on the old widows. He has been fired from every job he has had for theft but no one ever pressed charges. He portrays himself as slow and timid to gain trust, but it's all a con. The last one, there has been a few, hired him at 25k a year as her manager. He talked her into changing to his accountant because he would save her in taxes. After that the salary jumped to over 75k. He convinced here that her late husbands 6 deere tractors and equipment were worn out and sold them to a buddy for 30% of what they were worth. She farmed 300 acres, put up about 500 bales a year and had 90 4-8 year old cows. The last year she bought enough seed for a 2000 acre farm and enough fertilizer for all her land for five years. The farm fuel bill alone was over 50,000. Enough net wrap had been paid for to bale 10000 rolls. Her young cows disappeared and had been replaced by old cows with his brand on them. She also only sold 9 calves but her bulls tested good. He took her for over 600000 and did it in less than 18 months. His comment was that she thought of him as a son and she did everything to help him with his own operation. He even had the special ranger here so fooled that when we found the old lady's tractor being used to bale hay 60 miles away he looked at us and said " he will be done with it in an hour or two. Can't we just let him finish?"

Nothing ever happened to him. She wasn't the first and she won't be the last. The problem was that she signed the checks. Even with the newer laws in place, it still doesn't protect them.
