| Not surprised at all. In recent years, I started to weigh some of the meats that I buy: whole turkeys, chicken thighs, pork shoulders, and the like. I've come to the conclusion that after I am done taking off the fat, taking out the bone(s), and cooking, I end up with about 50% of what I initially thought I had. So, if I thought I bought meat at $2/ lb, it is really $4/lb for the edible meat. It is making me rethink my meat choices, especially those with bone in them. |
