![](/profile/get-photo.asp?memberid=5081&type=profile&rnd=615) East Troy, WI | Quite aware of the penalty of breaking the azeotrope. I am actually petitioning (and probably joining the committee) on ASTM Subcommittee: D02.A0.02. The absurdity is that since no specification exists for aqueous, assigning RIN gets a bit dicey.
From Commitee head: "D5798 limits to 0.82% volume. These limits and the hydrocarbon content component for D5798 are set at astm with auto influence."
But, in theory, a standard post-distilling column wet ethanol can qualify for RIN under the blanket approval of all gen-1 fuels because they are within an "approved pathway" --- just simply not extracting the last bit of water.
If you or anyone on here wants to help straighten out aqueous ethanol, contact me. My approach is simply to adopt the Brazilian spec within ASTM, and possible for a spec around 140 proof and one around 190 proof.
in the mean time, I don't think I will be able to get any wet ethanol from any local plants. Will keep trying, though. |
