While there's certainly nothing wrong with trying to substitute fuel ethanol/ biodiesel mix for petroleum diesel the thing to keep in mind is the energy cost of coverting hydrous 95% ethanol to anhydrous ethanol is about 1/3 the total processing energy. So if you can use hydrous ethanol it makes ethanol that much more efficent and cost effective. It's also possible that the 5% water helps with a cleaner burn although there may be higher NOx emissions. The thing about NOx emissions on the farm is that it's not such a problem because the concentration never remotely reaches the levels of congessed cities. Besides NOx wash out of the air as nitrogen fertilizer.
