Highland Center, in Southeast Iowa | I do not disagree with you, those are issues that need addressed and dealt with. But I also am of the opinion that some depression, OCD and anxiety in kids is caused by parents being unwilling to set consistent limits for kids. Kids need to know where the limits are, and those limits have to be enforced every day, because kids will test them every day. They simply need to know that there are parameters to their life and their parents won't accept behavior outside those limits. Not having those parameters can cause some kids to react with depression, OCD and anxiety. And too often I think today's experts opt to treat with medication instead of helping the parents do their job. I'm not trying to paint all depression, OCD and anxiety with the broad brush, but I truly believe that some of the cases can be eliminated by the parents' actions. |
