NW Iowa. / SW Arizona | I can't speak for you but from my point of view I think you made the right decision. If she wanted to control you before you get married I'd hate to see how controlling she would be after you were married.
My wife grew up on a farm for part of her childhood. One thing she always told everyone growing up is that she would never marry a farmer or live on a farm. Thirty nine years ago she said "I will & I do" and she's still living on a farm and she seems happy. Woman can change their minds,,,, this is my point :-).
