Death comes to us all. Life's but a walking shadow | Tara's statement presumes that there is alway some price that is above or at least equal to your cost of production. Or that you can take measures to reduce and keep your cost of production below some available price. There are a great many factors that determine your success as a farmer, the particular land & soil resources available to you, your skill & inclination etc. Sadly, one of the most important factors is how hard your father and grandfather worked and the decisions they made years ago. Another is how successful you were at another business outside of agriculture that permitted you to accumulate enough resources to establish and maintain a farming operation.
The secret is to realize that some of us will fail despite all our efforts, despite our wanting to be successful farmers or believing that somehow we have a right to be. And accepting that inevitability because that just the way the world works. |
