Subject: RE: Educate me on silage piles

I have my pile made by the custom choppers and they are very good at it. They use nothing for sides, and we use an 80ft cover. I surround the pile with large round bales to hold the cover down. After a first rain the water runs off the cover and into the bales and makes a good seal on the ground. I do not feed after June the first. My pile is ususall about 1000 to 1200 ton. The custom operators are very good at making a pile with minimal losses.
