Maybe I'm responsible.

Scouting my dryland corn that had been hailed in the blister stage; the main ears kernels got popped during the hail event.

However the corn flexed and the second ears that normally wouldn't have yielded anything have put on kernels.

It is still going to be a horrible yield but on paper I would have two harvestable ears per plant with a reduced ear weight per ear.
