It mostly was done for rocky fields were one end might get hung on a rock. With 200 hp tractors it don't take much to bend toolbar made out of three 4x4 bars.
We now have a few folding tool bars that we don't use the cables on anymore. They seem to be stronger then the old toolbars.
I would take some pictures of those old bent tool bars if we still had them but we got rid of them.
