Subject: RE: how to get some ground?

Appomattox/Fredericksburg, VA
I'm trying to wrap my head around this currently as well. I'm a young guy with 100% rented ground. My dad has farmed for 30 years on 100% rented ground. The trouble we have is in our area, land is selling based on the number of houses you can put on it. DC is really creeping in on us. More like rushing in on us. Eventually (sooner rather than later) the ground I'm working will be sold. I can't afford to buy land here so I'm looking to relocate where land is more "affordable." The ground won't be as productive but I hope to shape it up like I have done with the ground I'm working now. The hard part there is, I won't be able to buy enough to make a living on and will still have to rent ground wherever I go. Picking up ground is hard enough when you've lived there your whole life. Being a newcomer won't be easy. But then again, what part of farming is easy besides having an auction and selling it all?

I'd love to hear others thoughts as well.
