LOL Two words for you: Thermal Efficiency -- research them and how they apply to internal combustion engines. An engine designed to operate on alcohol will outperform one operating on dino fuel.
How are you defining "outperform"?
If HP is your definition of performance then yes ethanol/alcohol can produce some absurdly high numbers, they also produce some absurdly bad fuel use numbers.
The form of racing that I'm most into gets 900 hp out of a NA short block Chevy burning methanol. They burn 2 gallons/mile while racing.
