Thats what I would do...If its good Iowa tillable ground it should rent for $250 per acre..Someone mentioned 110K per year to live on but I and the wife get by fine on 40K a year... We both grew up poor and could do it on less if we absolutely had to..



Until you get sick. At that rate there is no health insurance figured in (unless fortunate to be covered by wife's employee plan or Medicare). Healthcare Premiums and HSA to cover high deductible are 20,000 plus for my family of 5. What maybe seems like big savings by getting by without is not worth it for me. I have seen more than one business (farm or otherwise) sunk by not having healthcare coverage.
Sad to say some will be pressured to make that choice though


That 40K a year includes $700 a month insurance for my wife...I'm on Medicare....If that farmer in Iowa couldn't live on 100K a year rent income,then there's a problem....90% plus of the families in my area don't even have close to a 100K a year income..
