The horsepower doesn't equate to fuel economy. It all comes down to btu per dollar. It's the same reason diesels burn less than gas. There is more energy in diesel than gas, and more energy in gas than ethanol. Any fuel can be more economical than another, it just depends on the price of each fuel. I sold a diesel pickup and bought a gas when diesel was about 75 cents more than gas. Now they are about the same price. Oh well, things will change again sometime.
