Uses county yields to determine initial margin (figured now for 2016) and final margin (figured in April of 2017 for 2016). Allows you to protect up to 90% of your initial margin. If you collect anything under MPCI (Revenue) policy you will offset any collection made under the margin protection policy. No one knows final cost of the product yet (multi-policy discounts have yet to be set), but I am anticipating somewhere around $5 to $10 per acre. For my part of the world, I am better off purchasing a higher level of production plan hail (with wind) than margin protection insurance. The hail policy actually insures what happens on my farm and pays out with no deductible. I view margin protection as just another layer of price protection - that goes away if the price moves down far enough to collect under your Revenue policy
