Less and less tillage around here all the time. I can't think of the last time I saw a chisel plow or ripper running. Don't even see too much discing anymore. Some including myself will use a foo foo disc from time to time if we need to do a little leveling or maybe the ground is just a little too wet and we can run that thing to give us enough loose dirt to close the slot.

I can't imagine the amount of iron and horsepower we would need around this farm if we still worked all the ground like we used too. No till is hard on the planter and drills. Wears them out fast. Just put new parallel arms on the planter. Years ago never heard of those wearing out and openers discs and coulters would last several seasons.

Our ground here gets very hard. People who haven't experianced it don't understand. It's about like planting into asphalt sometimes. I wish they would make planters bigger and stronger for those of use with these types of soils.
