North East IL | Maybe I didn't clarify, but we are only putting 80 to 90 lbs of fall with a full rate of nserve. The rest is side dress 32. It's been working good. Sandy farms have been some with pre then side dress.
We've been shooting for .8 lbs of nitrogen, maybe even a little less on some farms. But this year with a rediculous amount of rain we had here we lost a lot, and guys here who side dress never got the n available in time for the corn when it needed it. That is here on some rougher ground.
Illinois state has a pretty awesome setup with covers and fall NH3, spring and side dress and tile to measure losses with. They have shown the last couple years with a cover and fall app with N serve actually less nitrates go down the river than doing nothing at all. The covers take up nitrates and the nh3 stays put. I guess doing something like this is kind of a bridge for something else in the future.
I've got this pain in the rear jd air seeder, so I'm going to have rye in it anyways.
Thank you all for the comments. I appreciate it!!
