I wouldn't leave any fertilizer for the next guy. Plow it, plant corn, mine it, and hope you come out close. Maybe next year will be better? The landlord wants to maximize investment, so should you. You still want to be a good tenant, be appreciative that you ran it for the last 12 years too.
