That is very misleading statement you are making.

There is difference between the US and the US markets.

Companies like VALE RIO BHP, to name a few, are goliaths with over few hundred billion in market cap. They are listed on US indexes.

There are in fact hundreds of companies that are listed in North American indexes that do hundreds of billions of business a year with China. So yes, Chinese economic conditions are very much a relevant factor to US indexes.

Further, not even to mention the displacement effect that occurs with increased demand in one economy that has a ripple effect on demand in other economies. And the bigger the economy (China's is very large) the bigger the ripple.
