Liberty, MO | When was the last time you used the truck?? Have you checked the oil in the shifter Box on rear axle, worm gear has a ball bearing on the bottom end. There is a switch inside there also, have seen them go bad, maybe the mice ate the wires for lunch, also the switch on the gear shift can quit working also, maybe the fuse is bad.
Block wheels take it out gear might try shifting by hand if all other things fail.
If I remember right the center wire on the gear shift will be the Ground wire.
Good luck, they are not complicated , just common sense and patience will get it working.
