Nebraska aka the boondocks | okay, here is the deal with this Nebraska logic. they tacked on 13 bushels, right in their usual tacking range. however, they say the irrigated corn wasn't exactly what they thought. Yes, in years like this the gap closes between dryland and irrigated, because the dryland goes up and the irrigated goes down. Lots of moisture equals lots of hail, wind, lodging, cold wet trashy soil and disease here. When you irrigate like a banchee there tends to be a real fine line between enough and too much. We have GLS, southern rust coming in etc. Thus, IMO, in years like this their "irrigated," tacking number should be lower, not higher. Now you will find really good irrigated yields like last year, probably some guys with record irrigated, but just like last year there will be lots of holes in the irrigated acres because of the aforesaid. |
