South central kansas | Grains Update: August 20, 2015 Darrell Holaday A little quieter market and firmer tone today in the grain sector. Much of the buying is short covering (profit taking) as there is no major market news. The soybean complex moved to a new low early, but is extremely oversold (very low technical stochastics) so when the selling paused, there was some buying interest surface rather quickly. Export sales were generally neutral. Corn numbers a little better than expected. The wheat number was light, but considering the size of last weeks number, it was in line with expectations. Wheat sales and shipments for the year stand at 9.25 million tons, which is 15% below the pace of a year ago (10.86 million tons). The new crop soybean sales stand at 10.4 million tons, down 47% from a year ago (19.5 million tons). Soymeal is down 52% at 2.1 million tons. Todays new crop soybean sales were a good number at just under 800,000 tons, but the gap between this year and last year gets wider because a year ago the weekly sales were 1.3 million tons. New crop corn export sales are 5.6 million tons, down 39% from a year ago. |
