Mascoutah, Illinois | but a discussion. Is it possible Iowa is at "peak corn" for the time being?
2004 state record 181bpa
2009 state record 181bpa
2014 USDA had Iowa at 178bpa
2015 PFT has it at 180.25
I know CLAY has made mention the trend line is not moving higher in Iowa at the rate of pace it has in other states. In 2014, Missouri shatters the record with 186bpa and Illinois shatters the record with 200bpa. This year, Minnesota is going to shatter a record according to both the USDA and the PFT.
Is it a fertility issue?
Is it too much COC?
Is it a weather issue?
Is it hybrids not matching the climate correctly?
Don't get me wrong, 180-181bpa is amazing for a state and I am not trying to downplay the amount of production.
I am a more than a bit surprised Iowa did not shatter a record last year (tied it) or this year, but the combines have not rolled in 2015 for this corn crop and maybe Iowa does shatter a record. | |
